Latest Hair Trend

Straight talk on the latest hair trend
Greg Morago / Hartford Courant

Let's get one thing perfectly straight: If you want one of the hottest looks this season you have to get perfectly straight. Hair, that is.

Led by Reese Witherspoon (who also sported tamed tresses for the Golden Globes), the recent Oscar-night red carpet proved to be a showcase for the hair trend for shimmering straight locks. Witherspoon was hardly alone in the straight race. Nicole Kidman, Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith all looked great in straight hair.

It's a trend that clearly has legs after the red-carpet season, well into summer and even fall. Fashion runway looks from the spring/summer collections announced straight hair months ago, but there were also plenty of examples of straight hair in the recent collections in New York for this fall and winter. Major design houses such as Valentino and Fendi are on board with print campaigns featuring straight hair.

"It's a recycle, but it's definitely happening," celebrity hair stylist Oscar Blandi says. "Straight is coming back strongly. It's straight, but it's a different straight."

How?

It has body. Unlike the trend about six or seven years ago for stick-straight hair (a trend that brought with it all kinds of expensive hair-straightening systems and products), this season's straight has body, movement and shine.

"The key thing is that the hair is phenomenally shiny. It is very glossy, shiny hair," Redken stylist Kaz Amor says. "If you look at Gwyneth (at the Oscars), the hair was moving. It was not stiff, straight-down hair."

Blandi said the previous straight-hair trend dictated almost no movement.

"It's not spaghetti. Before, the hair was almost attached to the skull," he says. "Now, it's got a silky texture. It's not flat. There's much more body. This is a trend that's going to carry on for a while."

Instead of parting in the middle, today's straight styles are parted on the side and pulled away from the face, says Tim Rogers, stylist and spokesman for Charles Worthington hair products and salons.

"There's a strong side part and a lot

of motion and movement in the hair,"

Rogers says. "It's a clean, sleek, smooth look."

Because fashion and beauty help dictate hair trends, the time seems ripe for straight hair styles.

"There's a lot of color for spring," Amor says. "Whenever you have a lot of color, the hair tends to be simpler. Right now the hair needs to be simple."

Yes, above is one of the articles that I came across online and thought of sharing it with you all. In fact, it's also featured in the The Star papers and I found it interesting since I'm very keen with beauty, fashion and lifestyle. Well, the first thing that came to my mind was, wowee... I'm having straight hair (re-bonded) and that means I'm in one of the hottest looks this season and...I'm hot, tee-hee...! Seems like vanity strikes me again (I know) but heck, I'm very glad I did not curl or perm my hair which I kinda intended to do. :)

Well, I may not have the most beautiful hair on earth, but I'm proud and more than just glad that I'm having straight hair and I'm in the latest trend. So, before I go, here's a random picture of mine with straight hair and do pardon me for my extreme vanity. :P

Beautiful Nails

Ahh... so beautiful, ain't they? I think I'm starting to get envious, tee-hee.... Well, they are not my nails but a picture that I came across on the internet and I thought of posting it here.

For those who don't know, I've been having nails-peeling habit ever since I'm a kid, and as a result, I always have short nails. I did grow them twice though and painted them with pretty colours, and I still remember one of my gal pals thought they were fake and even inspected them, haha.

Although it's kinda hard to break the habit, I'm determined that I can quit peeling my nails. My Special has been motivating me, I'm getting really envious of those beautiful designs, so yeah, NO MORE NAILS PEELING, and I believe I'll have beautiful nails in weeks time. :)

American Idol Season 6

I've been always a fan of American Idol and in fact, I still am. I just think it's a very nice music reality television show. For this season, it's simply OK but I ain't that impressed as there are only 3-4 GREAT singers, contestants that REALLY CAN SING. And as for the voting, it turned out pretty dramatically as for those who should stay were voted off. Although I can't vote, it's kinda upsetting to see them out of the competition, especially when Sabrina was voted off the show. Well, she surely can sing, no doubts about it. And as for those who should go were not voted off, in my humble opinion, Sanjaya should really get out of the competition. No wonder there is quite a number of debates over American Idol whether the contestants are being judged over TALENTS OR LOOKS.

Anyways, the top 12 finalists will be performing tonight and I believe it's gonna be interesting and exciting. It'll be a special 2 hour show of classic Diana Ross songs, so yeah, we'll see who's gonna be the best tonight.

And here are my top favourite contestants of the show and I thought of sharing them with ya all.

1)
Blake Lewis - He's simply unique and his music style differs from the rest. Well, I think he sounds quite like Justin Timberlake.

2)
Lakisha Jones - She has a strong and powerful voice and she sings beautifully. Very, very nice.

3)

Melinda Doolittle - Truly a STAR and she's AMAZING, and her voice is FLAWLESS. I like her a lot and hopefully she can be the next American Idol. :D

4)

Stephanie Edwards - Hah, she's my favourite not because she has a same name like mine,tee-hee... but she can sing very well and I do think she's a great vocalist. At times, I think her voice is quite similar to Beyonce Knowles, especially when she belted out 'Dangerously In Love'.

*Catch American Idol on Starworld, Astro Channel 70 on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6pm (and repeat at 8pm)

Nu/\/\b3r5 & L3tt3r5

If I'm not mistaken, this is my first post consisting of numbers and letters style, or in other words leet, and often written as 1337 or 13375p33|<. Well, this does not approved in the academic world (exam writing), so I wondered if I ever used full leet in my exam script, what would be the consequences like. Will I flunk even if I answered all the questions correctly and perfectly? Still I prefer to be on the safe side as in no leet, no flunk, and after all, leet is meant for the online world, ain't it? :)

Apart from that, if I look at in different angle, I do think leet is pretty interesting and I must say very creative. It simply spice up any words or sentences and I see it quite as an art (although hard to figure them out at times). And believe it or not, Google Search has a site that contains leet and I think it's pretty cool, but I sill prefer the normal one as I ain't have much time figuring them out. Perhaps I'd use it to exercise my brain one day, tee-hee :p. Anyways, do check this out - Google's Hacker Language Page.

And before I go, I'd like to write a message (in leet style) and this goes out to my Special.

Skin Whitening / Lightening

Every girl or woman wants to be beautiful. To be more specific, the female gender wants to be beautiful, and there's no doubt I want it too, or perhaps I should say to stay as pretty and beautiful always. I know I'm vain, so do pardon me as I go on with this vanity post of mine. :p

According to wikipedia.com, skin whitening is a term covering a variety of cosmetic methods used to whiten the skin. It is especially popular in Eastern Asian countries, but is also used in parts of Latin America, Southern Africa, Mauritius and the United States.

So, what is up with all the skin whitening / lightening craze that occuring and advertisments /marketing that you see on tv, in magazines, billboard etc.? Well, according to health-cares.net, skin whitening works by absorbing the UV rays, thus preventing the sun from darkening your skin. Also, by reducing the production of melanin, the skin pigment found in your skin which is responsible for skin darkening. In other words, it helps one to achieve a more lighter, youthful and radiant complexion.

As I notice my skin gets darker and more dull lately, I believe it's due to over exposure to sun rays, or perhaps an imbalance diet. At the same time, although I have quite a number of good skin care products, I don't really use them, or should I say I don't use them diligently or religiously. BUT, I finally realize it IS important to maintain a proper skin care regime (basic steps : cleanse, tone and moisturize), and also to protect the skin from harmful rays by slathering the right SPF in order to have GOOD skin.

Thus, I've been doing all those beauty steps lately. Looking back, I used to skip the toning part, but I realized toning does help in one way or another as my T-zone is getting less oily-er day by day. In fact, I'm achieving softer and smoother skin, and let's just see if my Loreal 'White Perfect' skin care set truly works on me. :)

Next time when I look at myself at the mirror and ask "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?", hopefully it'd answer me "Stephanie, you ARE the fairest of them all." Tee-hee :P

When There's Power Outage

That was what I went through at my place yesterday due to some construction work at my neighbourhood, and as a result, no power for eight hours straight. In fact, it started around eight in the morning and I didn't really bother as I continued with my sleep. But as time went by, I began to get a bit agitated because I couldn't do anything much especially without any power on. No TV, no lights (my house looked pretty dim as it was about to rain at one moment), no fan, no online activities / computer, and no warm shower (the water was just so cold).

I even remembered there was a time when my god-bro came back from school and started to pout as he couldn't watch his favourite cartoon on Disney Channel. He wanted to go back to his home, unfortunately, his area was facing the same problem as well. Ahh... too bad but I believe he had a great time playing with cold water while he was bathing, haha.

Although the power outage was something that I didn't like, overall, it didn't really give me a major effect as I had to attend a class at noon and that means I got a chance to "escape", tee-hee. The power returned at 5pm so by the time I reached home, I was so very glad that everything was fine and back to normal.

So, what did I do when I was at home? To take away my boredom, I listened to some music on my MP3 player (it's one of the things that could work without any electricity, tee-hee) and also, I stood by the door, took several picture of myself and left for class. Below is one of the pictures that I really like. :)
Still lookin' good (I know I'm vain :p), and believe me, I ain't wearing any colour contact lenses.
