Today is 5th of June so yes, it's World Environment Day. Well, I knew nothing much about it until I came across several articles in The Star which I do think pretty interesting. In fact, I also did a little bit of research in the internet and this is what I've found.
According to Wikipedia.com, World Environment Day (WED) was established by the Nations General Assembly in 1972. WED is hosted every year by a different city and commemorated with an international exposition through the week of June 5. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), also created in 1972, uses WED to stimulate awareness of the environment and enhance political attention and public action.
And did ya know that each year has a different theme? For this year 2007, it's about climate change, thus it focuses more about climatic and global warming issues. To those of you who would like to know more about it, do check out 'An Inconvenient Truth', a documentary on Al Gore's campaign.
Since today is WED, I'd like to post a few pictures that my Special took during our Genting trip in May. Well, the pictures are more about 'greenery' and although they are not relevant to the current theme, 'greenery' is still one of the elements of the environment after all, so yeah, green light for that. :)
Pretty in yellow
